You’ve been thinking about it for some time, weighing the pros and cons of breast augmentation. After deciding to go ahead with a breast augmentation procedure, one of the most agonizing decisions is to decide on implant size. While most reputable plastic surgeons can offer great advice on what will look natural on a person, ultimately the decision is yours. The doctor only aims to please. As beauty is in the eye of the beholder, what one person thinks is the perfect size, another may think is too small or too large.

Doctors will have implant sizes at their offices. You will be encouraged to look at the different sizes and shapes during the consultation visits. But what if you’re one of those people who like to spend a lot of time making their decision? You don’t want to inconvenience anybody but you also don’t like to feel rushed. After all, this is an important decision and one that you may not be able to remedy easily later. After all, how will you know, really know if you’ll be happy with the implant size?

Here is an easy “do-it-yourself” boob job experiment that will help you find close to the right size for your breast implants. Here’s what you’ll need to do:

1. Buy a larger sports bra or nursing bra than you have right now.

2. Get dry rice and two plastic sandwich bags or old stockings.

3. Put the sports bra on.

4. Add rice to two plastic bags (or to the toes of stockings that you knot off) and place them within the sports bra.

5. Move around, try different clothes on and decide what you think about the new bra size.

6. Continue to change the amount of rice in the bags, adding more or taking out rice until you determine you have the right amount of rice. Don’t rush through this part. Those that are curious enough may even want to leave the privacy of their homes with their rice padded sports bras to get a complete picture of how the breast augmentation will feel.

7. If you feel you have the right size, measure the rice in the plastic bags by weight. Don’t worry about the rice volume until you’re done. That way you won’t feel obligated to decide between implant sizes based on how big they sound versus the ultimate look you are after.

8. Generally, one ounce of rice equals 30cc of a saline implant.

This process, although not exact, will help you bridge the gap between implants and resulting breast sizes.
