When environmentalists say that our natural resources is depleting, it’s true. And the number one that is slowly being pushed to the limit is our land resource. The number of people is increasing, and as a result, they inhabit more land areas than they did before, and where can they get the land they need to build their houses? They can get the land they need by transforming agricultural lands or any land into residential lands.
Thus, the more lands are converted into residential or commercial lands; less lands are being used in agriculture. And we know that agricultural lands are our main source of produce, such as meat and crops, therefore with every decrease in lands devoted to agriculture, it has a direct effect to our food supply. As a response to the depletion of agricultural lands, Urban Farming is being encouraged in cities! Let’s face, there are unused lands in the cities that can be converted into small farming areas, examples would be abandoned parking lots, and let’s not forget the top of our roofs! With Urban Farming we are able to maximize the available land space we have in the city, and help in increasing our food supply.
